Davido Openly Says that his Vision is to create a festival for African Culture.

It used to be the other way around—people would travel to Africa, make investments, and bring their own cultures with them. Likewise, we ought to celebrate festivals in this area as well. This is the reason behind my yearly event, which will take place every year:

“Every year, at different times, I want to offer [different artists] the chance to come and perform.” because, although they are unaware, they have supporters here. Because anything you post on the internet disappears the moment you put a song on TikTok. You wouldn’t even know if it was the best music ever by someone a billion miles away.

“I believe that we also need to own our culture. We are eager for someone to introduce the concept and say, “Hey, Afrobeats is expanding. Let’s go sign up for African Coachella or something.” I said, ‘No, we have to do this ourselves, it’s our property. In the future, if someone wants to collaborate, we must own it.

But in my view, I’m talking about ten or twenty years from now. My aim is for it to become something that belongs to the culture, not just to myself. I could be the one generating it, the one behind it, etc.

“But it’s something I’m doing for the culture; Atlanta will undoubtedly have the first couple, but since we are everywhere, we’ve talked about moving it around as well. I can therefore absolutely see maybe LA. Yes, I can definitely see Toronto. Therefore, we will undoubtedly move it.

Davido received three nominations for the 2024 Grammy Awards, indicating that his 2023 was a hit. On November 18, 2023, the first A.W.A.Y festival will be held at Atlanta, Georgia’s State Farm Arena.
