Tems announced that her new song would be out on Friday, December 8, 2023, in an exclusive announcement to her followers via her Instagram account.
After just releasing one track this year, the Grammy winner’s admirers were taken aback by the announcement, as they had. Not anticipated a fresh release from her.
Within minutes of Tems opening the Instagram account, over 23,000 people were following it. Tems told her admirers in her initial message that the channel will be used as a platform for exclusive news. She also mentioned how excited she is to share with them what she has in store for them. One of the first significant pieces of news she has since released on the channel is the announcement of her upcoming song.
Tems’ first 2023 single, “Me & U,” was released in October. However the mix of R&B and Amapiano was well received and peaked at number 10 on TurnTable Top 100.
After receiving widespread praise for her outstanding contribution to Wizkid’s “Essence,” Tems rose to prominence as one of Nigeria’s most well-known celebrities abroad. Her single “Free Mind” stayed on the UK Official Singles list and the Billboard Hot 100 for several weeks.
With her win for Best Melodic Rap for her role in Future’s “Wait For U,” however she became the first female Nigerian musician to get a Grammy.
For her efforts as a writer of the blockbuster song “Lift Me,” which was sung by Rihanna and served as the lead soundtrack for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” she also became the first Nigerian musician to receive an Oscar nomination. The song was nominated for Best Original Soundtrack at the 2023 Oscars.
Tems’ much awaited debut album, which is scheduled for release in 2024, will be preceded by her next song.
