Davido receives an apology from comedian AY for a joke that was “badly delivered.”
Afrobeats singer Davido has received an apology from comedian Ayo Makun, often known as AY, for a “badly delivered” joke he once told about him.
After a video of AY criticizing Davido at his recent performance in Warri surfaced on social media, AY came under fire.
He joked about Davido’s numerous baby mamas and turned the singer into the punchline.
The comedian questioned how it was possible for someone who is not available to impregnate women during the performance and asked the DJ not to play Davido’s song “Unavailable” to introduce him again.
After the joke received negative feedback, AY posted an apology to Davido on his official Instagram page on Sunday.
I am really sorry for telling that joke the way it came out in Warri, the author wrote. It’s not even funny anymore, I suppose. You have every right to be unhappy after seeing how the blogs used it because it wasn’t as hilarious as it had been throughout my tour of Canada and the US.
“Please understand that working in the entertainment industry means that we are all always learning. For the poorly delivered joke, moreover I deserve any criticism that comes my way. Nothing except excuses, however my Aburo. I have no excuse.
I will always be your biggest supporter and I adore you, @davido.
AY expressed sincere regret in his Instagram post and said that he deserved all the backlash and ire for making such a statement.
“I’m very sorry I told that joke in Warri the way I did. Even calling it a joke is no longer appropriate. You have every right to be unhappy after seeing how the blogs utilized it because it wasn’t as hilarious as it was during my tour of Canada and the US,” he added.
He emphasized that he had no justification for his offensive words and said that this experience had given him a chance to learn.
By referring to Davido as “my Aburo” (a term of endearment), AY reinforced his respect for the artist and declared his love and support for him in the final paragraph of the post.
“Please understand that working in the entertainment industry means that we are all always learning. For the poorly delivered joke, I deserve any criticism that comes my way. Nothing except excuses, my Aburo. I have no excuse. I’m still your biggest supporter and I adore you, @davido,” the post stated.
