Singer Teni tasks super eagles to win next match after davido's Grammy loss.
With Davido’s Grammy loss, singer Teni assigns the Super Eagles to win their next game.
“See, South Africa, you are in for it. Osimhen over to you, Lookman, over to you,” she stated.
Teni, a comedian from Nigeria, has humorously commented on Davido’s defeat against South African artist Tyla at the 66th Grammy Awards.
On Monday, February 5, 2024, Teni posted a warning on her Instagram account to the South African football team about the difficulty they will encounter on Wednesday in their AFCON match versus Nigeria. Teni emphasized with a sense of humor that Nigeria’s squad will force South Africa to “dance amapiaono on field.”
Playfully accusing the Grammy Awards of influencing Nigeria’s festive spirit—or at least attempting to—she questioned their sincerity.
“kill our groove,” highlighting the fact that there is now a problem.
Teni responded “Wahala wa o, there’s a problem grammy wa o, we’ve had parties upon parties and we still have. A party for tonight, we have many many parties i personally have like 5 for tonight. Grammy, are You trying to kill our groove? See, South Africa, you are in for it. Osimhen over to you, Lookman, over to you. South Africa you will dance amapiaono on field. The sky is crying , Grammy whyyy?”
Teni’s statement follows artist Davido’s defeat in all three categories for which he was nominated—including African Music Performance of the Year, which Tyla ultimately took home the trophy.
At the awards ceremony, other Nigerian singers who were nominated, including Burna Boy, Asake, Olamide, and Ayra Starr, lost in their respective categories.
Nigerians responded to these losses in a number of ways on social media. Teni has humorously focused her energies on the forthcoming football game between South Africa and Nigeria in spite of the loss.
