UPDATED with reason of death: The WWE announced that Bray Wyatt, real name Windham Rotunda, passed away on Thursday at the age of 36.

Wyatt passed away from a heart attack after getting Covid earlier this year, according to a late Thursday post by Sean Ross Rapp, a writer for Fightful.com, on X/Twitter.

“I have been given clearance to disclose that Bray Wyatt, the Windham Rotunda, acquired COVID early this year, which made his heart problems worse. There had been a lot of success in his recovery and return.

Sadly, he had a heart attack today and passed gone,” Rapp tweeted.

The WWE announced in a statement that Windham Rotunda, also known as Bray Wyatt, passed away on Thursday, August 24, at the age of 36.

“Known for his captivating performances and incredible in-ring presence, Wyatt was a defining Superstar of his generation and accomplished many feats in WWE, including becoming WWE Champion in 2017,” read the statement.

Wrestling legend Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri, known as “The Iron Sheik,” passed away at age 81.

Paul “Triple H” Levesque, the chief content officer for WWE, also announced the information on the X social media network.

“Just got a call from WWE Hall of Famer Mike Rotunda, who broke the heartbreaking news that Windham Rotunda, also known as Bray Wyatt, passed away abruptly earlier today. We urge that everyone respect his family’s privacy at this time as our thoughts are with them, added Levesque.

Very rare, cool, and distinctive character that is challenging to develop in this wild pro wrestling industry. Still absorbing Terry Funk yesterday and Bray today losing the goat. I send the Rotunda family and the Funk family my love, light, strength, and mana during this trying, terrible time.
